Sustainability & Inclusion Training for Housing Professionals

National Sustainability Coalition

Today, affordable housing needs to do more than simply create decent space for living. Building for the Future provides education and support  to facilitate the adoption of sustainability and inclusion "best practices" to create greener, healthier low-income neighborhoods. This unique training program from ACF and the Institute for Sustainable Business Education provides a framework to enhance your housing career as a Building for the Future Best Practice Specialist. Throughout the training, participants deepen their knowledge of sustainability, while developing inclusion skills. You will look at the community from a different perspective. in order to effectively deliver environmental stewardship, social equity and economic development. The outcome is a plan of action to not only help Section 3, small and diverse businesses compete for contracts, but also to create greener, healthier neighborhoods during HUD's massive construction project known as RAD.  If your Housing Authority is currently participating in RAD or any other government-funded housing development, this program is a must. The training is available as a full-day seminar with online follow-up or distance learning that is completely online with an instructor to answer questions.

Building for the Future was recently nominated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)  as a "National Best Practice" to use during RAD conversions. The initiative also won NAHRO's 2017 "Award of Excellence".  Visit the website for more information.
